Pee is For...

One of the things that we do as a family is have one evening each week where we get together to spend time.  Usually we have a opening song and prayer, testimony, some sort of lesson, an activity, a closing song and prayer and then the kids favorite part, treats.  It is recommended by our church and is a great way to grow closer as a family as well as teach your kids some of the things that are most important to their success and survival in life.  

We keep our evening pretty loose as far what we do.  Sometimes we do nothing but talk and other times we only play games.  Nothing rigid.  Our lessons will vary from something "religious" to how we want the upstairs floor stained.  Last night we discussed how our summer will go, or at least how we would like it to go.  

We started off talking about how we treat each other and the our attitudes.  Then we discussed TV and chores for the summer.  I'm not sure how we got on the topic, but we came around to saying our prayers as a family and individually.  We agreed on a time to say our family prayers, morning and night.  We want to say our personal prayers morning and night.

In order to help the kids remember to say their prayers my wife suggested that they remember P (Pee)  is for prayer.  Because they sometimes they forget, she wanted them to associate when they go to the restroom first thing in the morning and last thing at night with saying their prayers.  Pee is for prayer.

Most of us go to the bathroom first thing in the morning and then again right before we go to bed.  

Okay.  It's not the most civilized thing to associate it with, but if it works, great.

Let me go off an a tangent.  It got me thinking.  Across the country, how many families actively encourage their kids to pray every day?  How many families pray together, or even believe in prayer?  Perhaps there is a correlation between that and the state of affairs we are facing right now.  Think about it.  What other religion or group do we know of that teaches their kids to pray every day.  The group I'm thinking doesn't pray to God and doesn't pray for the welfare of the world's people, at least not all of the world's people.  Rather, they have a philosophy that if you do not adhere to their code of behavior and beliefs you are to be destroyed.  Couple that with their birth rate compared with that of the "Christians" in this country and some conclusions can be drawn.
